A parent's guide to privacy and safety in DoodlePlot

Short version: no ads, no accounts, no personal information collected. The app works offline and drawings stay on the device. The handful of optional features that use the internet are off until a grown-up turns them on, and this guide explains exactly what each one does.

You'll need

  • DoodlePlot installed on the child's device
  1. Check: no account, no sign-in

Open the app. You're never asked for a name, email, birthday or login. There is nothing to create and nothing to forget.

  2. Understand the camera

Tracing uses the camera as a live window onto the paper so the picture can float over it. The feed is displayed and discarded — it is not recorded or sent anywhere. The camera permission prompt appears the first time Trace is opened; it can be revoked in device settings at any time. The only photo the app keeps is the one you choose to save of a finished paper drawing, and it stays on the device.

  3. Decide about the AI features

Three optional features use the internet: Magic pictures (type words, get a new picture), Draw your photo (a photo becomes a traceable outline) and Photo Caricature. They're behind a single AI features switch in Settings, off by default. The first use shows a plain-language disclosure; the photo or text is sent to Google's Gemini for one-time processing, screened to stay kid-friendly, and not saved by us. Photo Caricature also asks a grown-up question before a photo can be chosen.

    • If you'd rather keep everything offline, leave the switch off. Everything else works without it.
  4. Know how spending is protected

The only purchase in the app is the optional DoodlePlot Pro subscription, handled by the App Store or Google Play. Your device's usual purchase confirmation — Face ID, Touch ID, password, or Ask to Buy on a child's device — guards every purchase. There are no coins, no loot, no timers, no ads.

  5. Read the policy

The Privacy Policy is written in plain language and is the same on the website and in the app. If anything is unclear, email support@doodleplot.com and a real person will answer.

What we don't do

  • No advertising of any kind, and no advertising SDKs in the app.
  • No accounts, no email lists, no social features, no chat.
  • No selling or sharing of personal information — we don't collect any to begin with.
  • No behavioral tracking across apps.

What the app does use

  • Anonymous crash reports that keep the app reliable — always on, with no advertising identifier.
  • Anonymous usage counts (which features get used) so we can improve the app — you can turn these off under Settings → Share anonymous analytics.
  • An anonymous purchase identifier from the store so your Pro subscription follows a reinstall.
  • The internet, only for the optional AI features and for downloading template packs.

Try it in DoodlePlot
